CCTV Camera System - Important Information You Need Before Buying

What are CCTV cameras?

CCTV is the abbreviation for Closed Circuit Television. CCTV cameras are used to monitor a particular area where they are installed. Modern CCTV systems are composed of several parts that are used simultaneously to achieve proper monitoring and detection. These parts are the DVR, cameras, hard disk drive, cables, monitor and power supply.

The DVR and its Functions

DVR or the Digital Video Recorder plays a very important in the whole CCTV camera system. In layman's terms, it is the heart of the CCTV system. This is where you record, play back and control your cameras. The DVR comes in different types but has almost the same functions.

Full D1

When you hear the word full D1, it means that the DVR has the highest resolution that any other CCTV system has to offer. Combine this with high specs CCTV cameras and you'll have the best CCTV system of all. Full D1 DVRs are commonly used for industrial purposes that practices tight security and settings wherein facial identification is vital. The problem with this DVR is that it costs a lot higher than other types of DVRs but with very minimal difference in picture with its counterparts.

Half D1 Half CIF

For small businesses or for not-so-strict environment, Half D1 is acceptable. This is the most commonly used DVRs today since they are extremely affordable but offer high quality pictures. When you say half D1 that means that only half of the numbers of cameras installed in the DVR can reach its maximum resolution (480x320p), while the other half can only manage to provide (360x280p). The reason why many people opt for this type is because it also produces high quality images but does not come with hefty price tag.

Full CIF

CIF is another type of DVR. This type produces the lowest quality of all, though to some people it is already acceptable. Full CIF DVRs produce 360x280p resolution in all cameras installed. Some people might not even notice the difference between these types of DVRs but to those who have background knowledge with cctv package

or those who have very clear eyesight, this type is not good. They do not produce high quality pictures, which makes them the cheapest and the most rarely used DVRs of all. Full CIF DVRs are the oldest model of DVR.

DVR and its Features

Modern types of Digital Video Recorder process the lowest video compression possible, the H.264. This is why recordings and play back may now be extended to months instead of days. You can now also connect it to the internet, so that you can access your cameras remotely or from another location using your computer or your mobile phones. These features make it easier to some people to run their businesses even without actually being there. There are other more sophisticated features that CCTV camera has to offer like motion detection, video loss alarm, power loss alarm, manual and scheduled recording and other more entries that alleviate your protection and your personal security.
